Understanding the type of career you are best suited for can be overwhelming for some students, but it doesn’t have to be. Sometimes it’s as easy as identifying things such as your favourite area of study in school or what you like to do in your spare time. Breaking down your interests and matching them with potential careers is a great starting point.

The Forge Ahead pilot program developed by the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce is aimed at generating awareness and helping students understand the immense career opportunities within the advanced manufacturing sector.

Advanced Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 refer to the growing use of smart technologies in factories around the world, including the digitization and automation of manufacturing processes.

Understanding your personality traits can help you narrow down the career options that you are best suited for. If you enjoy building things then you are probably a “Maker”, if you are goal-oriented you are an ”Organizer” and if you love solving complex problems then you are a “Coder”.

Personality assessments are never one size fits all. But within them you can usually find a dominant set of traits that each of us has. And it can help you understand which way to look when choosing your future career.

For example, if you are a Maker then Robotics might be your thing, if you are an Organizer then Systems Integration might call to you and if you are a Coder – take a closer look at such areas as Machine Learning or AI Development.

Take our quiz at Forge Ahead to learn more and see how well you are suited for a career in the exciting world of advanced manufacturing.
